The records follow this line from Joseph Tessler and Libby Kessler in the Russian Empire through the Kessler and Levine families of McKeesport. Their descendants built lives around western Pennsylvania, with Laibe Kessler later making Pittsburgh home.

    Joseph Tessler is recorded as born in Russia around 1820. Libby Kessler is the other earliest-known person on this line.

    Leib Tessler arrives

    Tree records place Leib’s arrival in 1907. He worked as a huckster and baker before opening a grocery on Market Street in McKeesport.

  3. 1910
    Fannie crosses with sixteen dollars

    A family note says Fannie Selverman—also recorded as Feige—arrived in the United States with $16.

  4. 1918
    A family caught in the influenza pandemic

    A note in the tree says Leib died during the 1918 influenza pandemic. Fannie died the following year.
